Magazine inspiration.
This is one of the rap magainzes I looked at for inspiration and for some of the ideas for my own magazine. I chose to look at this magainze because it's the same genre as the music magazine I wanted to create: rap/RnB. I like also really like the over all look of it, that's what attracted me to it at first but I found the contents of the magazine just as good.

Contents page of my music magazine.
On the right is the contents page of my music magazine, I have the same colour background as on the front cover. It's a pale grey to make the black writing and the pictures stand out more. I put all the writing on one side of the page so there was plenty of space to put a medium long shot on the right. I wanted my contents page to have an irregular and quite quirky style of layout I separated the main stories from the other features in the magazine on the contents page to show the levels of importance between each story or magazine feature. The picture on the right hand side of the page is a picture from one of the main stories in the magazine; I chose to put a picture from one of the stories, instead of just placing a random image there that looked good, so there was a link between the writing and the picture. At the bottom of the page there is some small text that tells the reader who the photograph is of, where it was taken, when it was taken and who it was taken by. When producing my contents page I looked through other magazines for inspiration, I was looking to see if there was anything that different genre magazines have in common with their contents pages.

Front cover of my music magazine.
On the right is the front cover of my music magazine. There is a clear colour scheme of red, black and grey and this is continued on to the contents page and double page spread. The masthead is much bigger than the rest of the text on the page to show that is the name of the magazine and isn't part of one of the articles. The masthead is also overlapping the lead story to emphasise it's importance. The lead story stands out because it is the only story on the cover with a picture and it's highlighted so it stands out and grabs the reader’s attention. The secondary lead is just below the lead story, again to show the level of importance. There is a menu strip at the top of the page and a feature at the bottom this gives the reader an idea of what is in the magazine without actually opening it. This is used to interest the reader at first glance and leaves them wanting to know more, by putting limited information on the front cover they will want to buy the magazine to find out more. Another thing I used to draw in the reader is the plug on the bottom left hand side of the front cover, with this it gives the impression of getting something back from buying the magazine. 'Free pair of shutter shades for every reader' This is just what the reader wants to see, exactly what's being offered to them, how much it is and the page number so they can find the details to the offer easily.

Student Magazine work.

Below is the front cover of my student magazine. I took all the pictures used for this magazine, chose a subtitle title and filled the extra spaces up with a few of the features that are in the magazine. On the right is the contents page of my student magazine. I print screened my front cover and pasted it on the contents page to show where the features on the front cover are in the magazine. For the main font on the contents page I used a font I downloaded from the 'dafont' website to give the magazine a bit of edge and new style. I think my contents page could be more linked to my front cover, by matching the colours of the backgrounds or keeping all the same font on both pages. I kept some of the font the same so it didn't look too different and so you could tell the pages were part of the same magazine. I also think I could have made the presentation on my front cover a bit neater and not so scattered about. And I could have made my contents page less cramped, so the writing was easier to read. I placed some other pictures I had taken on the front cover as a space filler they were used as features in the magazine and were written about on the contents page so they didn't just looked like they were randomly placed there.
